Not sure where to post this as there isn't a PH for white goods...
Our Creda Simplicity tumble dryer isn't spinning. The belt is still in place, but the drum is leaning back and resting on the rear panel of the appliance. I assume there is some sort of spindle/bearing that normally holds the drum in place. This must have dislodged or broken. Am I thinking along the right lines and if so, is it an easy fix?

On mine there is no spindle - the drum is simply wedged between the front and rear panels with some felt used as a "bearing".

Open the case - there can't be much to it.

I've opened the unit - the drum is loose although the belt is still intact. I can see that it is leaning against the back. It would appear that there is/should be a spindle.

Whack some photos up. Have taken a few apart before, though most have been due to belt or motor failure.

Check the bottom of the appliance for any parts that have fallen off, failed. Do you still have the manual and does it have any sort of diagram of the appliance?

Percy,

I had the same problem with our Hotpoint.

On the back of the machine is a cover where there was a bearing, noticed there was a coating of metallic dust on it and guessed the bearing had worn.

Found one on this site. Excellent service and arrived next day. (have linked to page for Creda. Think its a bearing needed.

Easy fixed and cheap too. Good feeling that I have saved at last £100...

That looks like what I'm after. I removed the cover and noticed that the earthing strip is broken. There is also a thick layer of black dust and the spindle just came away from the housing.

My Hotpoint stopped turning yesterday, started the search at the back and there was a lot of black dust,(should I be worried about that?) but the belt has definately snapped.

We have ordered a new belt, but how easy are they to fit?

Percy,

To be on the safe side, I ordered the shaft repair kit as well as the bearing just to be on the safe side.

Speedchick,

I think it will be a tricky job as on the espares website, they list how to change most parts and supply them. However, when it mentions replacing the belt, it recommends calling an engineer and doesnt list the belt.

To be honest, not sure its hard as I am sure it was in the bottom left hand of the machine and easily accessible.

Big hammer and gaffer tape, that'll fix anything.
