As we're approaching the end of our self build, we've had interest from TV and magazines that would like to feature it. The house is looking fantastic, but is quite bare as it's going to be a few months before our finances recover to buy all the new furniture we'd like.

It would be great to be able to 'dress' it to look the part - to put in some furniture and decorations that match the high quality of the materials and finish of the building. Does anyone know much about this? Would it be possible to approach someone like John Lewis to showcase their stuff, or is it a question of pulling in donations from individual suppliers to build up a look?

This is a high quality contemporary family home and we'd love to show just how pleased we are with the end result.

Don't see why not - the big retailers might also want to feature your house in their in-house publications, with all their products in situ. Smaller retailers might do a deal if you have press & media lined up.

Any pics of the house as it is?

The TV companies use agencies to do this, apparently even for programmes like Grand Designs sometimes. Random link http://www.housewow.co.uk/

I'm always impressed by how programmes like DIY SOS can have 30 mins to go and then the end look at pretty amazing (at least from a distance!).

I can't for the life of me imagine that firms will donate stuff to you, unless it's going to be on telly or featured in a suitable magazine (and even then I'm doubtful, and it might be more hassle than just buying the stuff) but I guess you don't know until you ask.

I would be quite surprised if the TV company wouldn't be able to put you in touch with suppliers who would donate stuff to get it on TV....

You must have boundless energy.

After all that work unless it was adding value to the house for sale I would want to get on with the doing stuff rather than giving the mags free copy.

I know some of them resell with "as featured in 'House and Garden' " (saw one today in fact) but that probably has a shelf life as the one I saw looked anything but 'House and Garden'.
