Hi Myself and the OH have bought a new house which we are in the process of renovating before we move in. The rear of the property is not over looked but has a foot path that runs against our fence and as such is any easy way in for some theiving scrote to get into our garden.

With that in mind we want an alarm system that will give a good level of cover. I personly would like vibration/anti tamper sensors on the doors and glass down stairs and on the 2 windows upstairs that have access from the flat roof of the extention.

I prefer the thought of the alarm going off on an attempt rather than if they get in. I will put a couple of PIRs up so if any one does get in they get picked up (also we have a cat which will be in the range of the PIRS in most of the down stairs area as its open plan).

Does anyone have any experiance of fitting these systems or has any one seen a good kit thats available we have had a couple of quotes of around 600-700 quid which is a bit more than I want to pay given that I am more than happy to buy a kit or build a system up from components if some one can give me a quick quide or pointers to components and any other ideas.

I would prefer wired systems as one they seam to be cheaper and more reliable and the main advantage to a wireless one is not a conern as every room is striped and needing some plastering anyway.

Cheers

You can get special PiR's that will not pick up small cats/dogs etc...not THAT much more expensive.

Do a Google......

I have seen the pet PIRs they look a good idea.

The thing is though they are still in the house before the alarm pics up though.

You are absolutely right to go wired. You will get a quality system that is reliable this way.

Have a look at this site, it is very useful and answers a lot of questions:

http://www.diy-alarms.co.uk/catalog/choose_hw_cont...

For shock detectors go for Viper GLX which have a door/window opening contact built in.

Also you'll want to fit one detector per zone rather than trying to put several detectors on the same zone. This makes it easier to know what's happening when you get an alarm and for diagnostics. Therefore depending on the size of your house you'll something with between 8 and 20 zones or more.

Very handy to get a system with a prox reader to activate/deactivate the alarm system.

Also think about comms to your mobile or other phones.

Look at systems from Honeywell (eg Galaxy G2 ), Scantronic, Castle Tech, Texecom etc

Plenty of websites selling kit to compare prices including the one above. Check out securitywarehouse, gx-security.

I have fitted and added to my own and several other alarms if you need any advice post away.

There are some pro installers here also like Westyprelit.

The above website has sections on system design which is very helpful if you're not sure.

We fit the odd alarm and always fit Texecom, customer service is great in the unlikely event there's a problem. Check out alert electrical for some good deals.

Where abouts are you? We could do a pro fitted wired system circa £600.

yes We have one of these in the room where the pets reside. I think it cost about £25 more than an ordinary PIR.
