Garden lights - Solar lights advice plz

Guys,

I'm having work done in the garden and would like some lights that run along the decking and in some of the slabs, I was thinking of getting some normal solar recessed ones from b&q etc but people have said they are a waste of money.

Is this so, I don't really want to turn on/off mains every time I go into the garden in the dark I'd like them to 'just come on'.

Does anyone know any decent solar lights or are they all crap.

This is what i'm trying to achieve, but not as many lights.

Solar lights are all crap. Why not get some lights mains wired and have a photo sensitive switch on the circuit?

As above the solar ones are crap, dont waste your money.
You may be better going down the LED route, cheaper to run, they run cool and will last a long long time!

Anything with the words Solar and B&Q in the same sentance are not worth pursuing.

ETA, I can help you with the LED route and as a Timmy35 says, you could put them on a photosensitive switch but then, you are not going to want them to run all night are you so perhaps a timer switch would be better.

Those solar lights won't light anything. The ambient light from that picture can only be from the interior light plus a hefty bit of photoshopping. At best, they'll light a tiny area around them. If you want to go the solar route, then a panel, regulator, 12v battery and proper lighting is the minimum for anything decent to light a walkway after dark.

I went for the Luxform 12V range. Easy to install, and gave the effect we wanted.

Transformer is IP44 rated, which may (or may not) be useful to you. We've connected ours to a ByeBye standby adaptor, so they come on/off with a button. Both Luxform and ByeBye standby offer auto scheduling / on/off.
