I have kept a small area in my veggie plot to grow some herbs.

I'm not sure what to go with. I would like something I can grow / use use all year round if poss?

Any suggestions welcome!

Cheers. BB.

Rosemary. Yummy with lamb, and for burning on the barbie.

Chives for salads.

Dill, great for fish.

Also a little rosemary bush for the lamb

I would also have a little go at growing Salad. The packet stuff is so overpriced when you can grow your own for peanuts and, personally, they never put enough Lollo Rosso in there for me smile

Oh forgot, wild rocket.

Will grow right through, delicious wilted on pizzas, good to pep up a salad. And very easy to grow as a cut and cum back.

I grow them in pots and they weirdly self seed every year! It also stops them running and taking over the garden.

In the pots i've got:

Oregano
Sage (regular and blackcurrant)
Rosemary
Thyme
Basil (Sweet and Thai)
Mint (regular and also Chocolate mint & Orange variety....makes lovely Mohitos).
Chive
Garlic
Dill
Coriander
Parsley (only thing that hasn't come back)

Also around the garden:

Curry plant
Lemon Balm
Verbena

In the greenhouse

Rocket
Lollo Rosso
Endive
Plus all the other fruit and veg

Next year i'm planting some Catha edulis (AKA Qat). Curious to see how it tastes laugh

If you're planting mint, make sure it's in a pot, even if that's buried in the ground. It spreads really fast!

This is true. It's also useful to keep it off the ground as for some reason our sheepdogs used to make a point of pissing on it.

You mean you keep them in their pots and plant them into the soil to stop them spreading?

No. I keep then in pots and troughs above ground.

If you plant up lots of herbs along with your veg, you'll be forever "de-herbing" it!

Segregation is key. Mint and Fennel are the worst "runners".

Ta for advice Cinque. Maybe difficlut for me to follow though as I have a raised bed veggie plot (triangular in shape) and a small area at the pointy end of the plot for herbs. Maybe best to keep away from runners such as mint and fennel then?

As long as you can remember to keep watered mint is best kept in the pot, in the soil the roots will escape out of the bottom and run riot.

Herbs, even if not used for culinary purposes make quite an attractive show.

Thanks for advice. Think I will steer away from planting Mint!

Thats a lovely show you have there. What herbs are included in that show?

If you want all year round then sage, thyme, rosemary, bay would be my best suggestions as all seem to grow easily with minimal care and are quite woody and hardy so should last better than parsley and others.
