Is there a half decent DIY option? I don't mind spending a day doing it while have a cool pint. Obviously a pro powered one would be nice but I can't really spend £600+ when Greebn Thumb will do it for under £40! Or should I just pay them each year to do it?............

Greenthumb do mine every year, they just don't clear away the cores they remove.

They say it's good for the lawn!

Probably cost just as much to hire one,and you'd still have to clear the cores yourself.

About 225 Sq M. Not interested in hiring as Green Thumb will do it for about the same cost, looking at a DIY solution for year in year out or pay them. As above, GT leave the cores on top anyway. I've found a spring loaded DIY tool that stores the cores in a tray.

Righty, we likewise looked at the likes of Greenthumb etc, until we realised their quotes (and those of other companies) would cost for a year about the same as buying most of the equipment and materials ourselves, and then reusing that kit year on year thereafter...

There are plenty of Ebay aerators, or you can indeed hire one. Some great cheapie kit which you can tow behind a lawn tractor or push yourself. Feed / Fertiliser / Seed can all be bought in bulk, again online, and a backpack sprayer will set you back all of £30, again from Fleabay... job done.

Actually, just looked at my maths, wasn't even close to a year's fees - we were looking at between £1400-1600 per annum to keep it maintained, have so far spent about £500 on equipment and materials... Okay so it might use up a few saturday afternoons, but I'm content with that.
