Please help - my washing machine tripped the electric last night, and now it won't bloody work!

The door locked LED is constantly flashing (awaiting the door to be locked shut), even though the door is shut....and cycles won't start.

I'm putting two and two together here, but I think the door locked sensor may have gone, which is why the cycle won't start....as it won't recongnise the door is locked shut.

Does this sound right? And how could I fix it?

Alternatively, should I just buy a new washer?

But why would that cause a trip? (Anyway - have you tried pulling/bashing the door handle around a bit?)
Half the time whatever the apparent fault it's the brushes in the motor (which can cause tripping sometimes) - easy to check, take case apart and see if they look burnt/worn too short - usually easy to get/fit new ones.
If the motor has seemed sluggish/erratic or there has been any burning/fishy smell lately it is almost certainly the carbon brushes. Anything else if you don't know someone, it is probably cheaper to buy a new one.
If you Google the make model and fault description - there are a lot of dedicated forums and you might find some other common faults on your model.
