I've been looking around for some medium sized cobbles, similar to these:

I only need a small amount (3 bags worth according to the calculator on the above links) and all the places I've found seem to have a large minimum order (eg 23 bags).

I know I could go to Wickes and buy a couple of bags of 'decorative aggregates', but their range is hardly inspiring!

Does anyone know of any places that are happy to deal with smaller orders?

Chesil beach!

Though seriously a lot of garden centres and building merchants have decent choice! the independent ones are normally the best.

Our garden centre sells a wide variety of stuff by the bag. I'm sure other decent independents nationwide will carry a good variety.

If you really struggle to find what you want, try googling 'Caledonian Stone' and asking them if they can put you on to a local retailer. That's where I buy my pallets of 20kg bagged stones for work.

Most garden centres have bags of ornamental gravel/stone/pebbles/cobbles etc. Have you tried any local ones? I'm sure if they didn't have the ones you wanted, they could always do a special order for you.

Don't! I know MM was (probably) kidding but firstly it's illegal and secondly the salt on them won't do adjacent plants any good.

Unless you grow seaweed.

Unlikely, as they will generally have to order a ton pallet.
