I have a MK consumer unit which is about 15 years old and want to replace it with a more modern one. Any ideas on cost of a sparks to supply and install in west London?

How old is the rest of the electrical installation?
Is there any evidence of alterations/additions?
Anything anywhere in the house look a bit ropey?
What is access like - is there good room to work?
How many circuits?

It's all about 15 years old, no alterations or additions.

All in good shape.

8 circuits (lighting, rings, garage, oven & immersion), existing unit in under stairs cupboard with reasonable access

You should be looking at around £500. He will have to inspect and test the whole installation, that's why I ask about the general condition.

MK consumer units are modular. It should be easy to upgrade the internals if this is acceptable. Assuming of course the box is big enough for your current/planned usage.

As stated a full test & inspection is required before the work commences.

Thanks for the reply, the box only has a single "rail" so would not support the latest edition standards. I did speak to a electrical wholesaler and they said that some of the bits are hard to come by for that unit now.

We have had a few power interruptions in the area and when this happens typically the main breaker goes out. The last one resulted in the freezer defrosting whilst we were on holiday so I was thinking of changing the unit.

Mk do a retrofit kit. You can get RCBOs to fit for very low money.
