Where to live, on a tube line decent distance away? Affluent
Discussion
I currently live in St John's Wood, lovely (small) house but with two kids and two cats its driving us all mental, plus no garage so I have to rent nearby etc..
Now I have always lived central, the way I see it you might as well walk everywhere and enjoy your life however its unrealistic for me to be able to buy a '5 year home' where I am now, and to be honest the thought of going for a nice drive, having a decent garden appeals so where to live?
I know no areas, near London suburbs, never been. Thought about Cobham but I hate trains so where is affluent that is served by the tube? I don't mean Clapham and all the type of thing, I mean you step out of the tube and its actually very pleasant and dare I say it wealthy...
No school problems as thats all sorted....
Thoughts gratefully recieved.....

Moor Park? Tube Station is in the centre of a private estate. Has fast trains that skip many of the stations on the way to the City. Basically 1 to 2 stops to Fincley Road, 2 to 3 stops to Baker Street.
Further up the Met line you have Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Little Chalfont, Latimer and Amersham - but they are that bit further away.
If you prefer the Jubilee Line, Stanmore is pretty good - As you are a NW London guy, I am guessing these would best suit.
As an example, this house is about a 5-10 min walk from Moor Park Station

The trouble with all of these places is that they can take a lot longer to get into central London via tube than further away (and nicer) places via train. Not sure I see how the trains will be any more or less pleasant than the tube either.
From Amersham you can get the tube (Met line) or train (to Marylebone) depending on how the mood takes you.jazzybee said:

Main reason: service frequency.I live in Zone 6, mainline train station. After 8pm, 2 trains per hour.
Compare with almost anywhere in Zone 6 on the Tube, say part way up the Metropolitan Line as an example. You'll get noticably shorter train intervals.
In and around London, proximity to an Underground Station has always been more desirable than Rail, and always will be.

I live in Zone 6, and there are a LOT more than 2 trains an hour. You must be in the bad bit, train wise.
