New Garden is massive, previous occupiers had a big veg plot at rear of the house.
20m x 20m.

So far I've only managed to fill an area 6x10m so the rest is looking a bit bare (before the weeds take hold)

Planted/sown so far Potatoes/Carrots/Peas & Onions/salad greens (with more to follow)
Still to plant out from the greenhouse Leeks & Brocoli.

I'm getting a bit late in the season but anyone any ideas of something (edible or not) to fill the area and make it look tidy, before I give in & sow grass seed.

I've thought about some of those flower seed packet mix's to give a colourful area but not sure if I've left it a bit late.

So I thought I'd ask for some suggestions.

20x20m veg plot...bloody hell

You didn't mention any, but ho about using some of that area for fruit trees (apple, pares, ext)or fruit bushes (black/raspberry, gooseberry)? something 'permanent'.

my 2 cents anyway smile

All of those mentioned + cherry, rhubarb & red/blackcurrants are in surrunding borders. It's an old house big with walled garden.

Ideally I'm looking at something for ground cover and reasonably easy to grow/keep. Thought about a massive patch of Mustard or something!

That's not a big garden, it's a small farm...

It's time for planting sprouts if you like the things, not a soloution to ground cover but if you have the space and like them why not?
You could create a nice herb garden, different types of thyme (there's loads), mint (it can get a bit wild tho), chives, anything that will come each year. Mulch with bark or stone to keep the weeds down, and keep a section for herbs to plant out in the warmer weather.
