Edited.
I lied, it cost over £2k, but with the refund it was close to it. Sorry :S
But I did get expensive tiles and cooker etc.
All fitted by me apart from the worktop, which was done at mates rates.

Me and my dad did mine for £2K 4 years ago. Nothing special, mainly B&Q when they had a sale.
- B&Q kitchen (metal sided/runner drawers)
- sink with drainer
- Ceramic tiled floor (B&Q cheapest)
- Tiled walls
- Silver Baumatic fridge and freezer from local white goods warehouse
- Stainless cooker hood and extractor (from same white goods place)
- Black Cannon Oakley gas cooker from ebay (3 months old)
Still looks in good condition now despite letting the house out to lodgers etc.
The only things I would spend more on now is the floor tiles as a couple have chipped where things have been dropped, and the extractor is annoyingly noisy.
