What sort of beetle is this?
Discussion
Found this thing in my sitting room on Saturday.
It looks pretty menacing. I've had a look on the internet and can't find anything similar.
I'm living in Ireland, and this doesn't look irish (no freckles or red hair)
Its about an inch and a half long and has a spike pointing down at the back.
I'd really appreciate any help in identifying it. I can get some better photos if needed.

- Please excuse me if this is a common household bettle, but in my 29 years I have never seen one like this.

When i were a lad there was a swarm like congregation of cockchafers appeared from nowhere down our street, had never seen them before. The street was buzzing with these little helicopter beetle things. My eldest cousin (always the bad boy) caught one and gave it to me, i was about 12 or something. Thought it would be a good idea to put one in a matchbox and take it home to show Mum & Dad, then let it out in my bedroom. f
k me! I did not sleep well that night
Funnily enough i haven't seen one for years since, until this weekend
One buzzed into the bathroom and scared the s
t out of the girlfriend
I instantly knew what it was. Must be certain weather that brings them out
