Dad's lawnmower has packed up, so a new one is required. The old one was an electric Bosch rotary, the total area of grass is around sixty feet square.

Are Bosch top of the pops for that sort of spec, or should we be looking elsewhere? Electric is preferable for convenience, and the budget is up to arounf £130.

For 60 sq ft you may as well save money and get a push mower

60-ish feet on each side - so around 1200 sq ft.

I'm sure he's not interested in a petrol model, just wondering if Bosch is a safe bet, or am I missing a trick?

yesI find a petrol far more convenient. And forget the push mower - they're bloody hard work unless you do it twice a week when the grass is growing.

Even if you only have a window box, a ride on is your answer.

My Maths teacher would have shouted "Read The Question!" as has been posted, 60 feet square is not the same as 60 square feet. I'm sick of explaining the difference to my Rep.

I don't think any electric mower is the safe bet. Got to be a little petrol jobbie.

i had a cheap petrol from B&Q, it was fine, for a similar sized area, and no pesky wires. sold it when i moved overseas.

ive currently go a push mower as grass is only about 250 sq ft (thats 25 feet 10 feet)

EFA.

Re electric - they really don't have the power to deal with long grass. I borrowed my neighbours once when I was still at the push mower stage and and to give it back when it clogged and started smokingpaperbag

Our lawn is only about 15x25 ft and it used to take most of an hour with the push mower, the small Izzy takes 15 minutes maximum.

Works fine on my front and back lawns, not had a problem with it in long grass. Takes 6-8 hours to charge the battery and does 1500m2 on one charge.

I had a Flymo for 16 years and it was still going strong if a little battered. Forget petrol mowers for anything that small an area. If you let the grass grow long, a petrol mower will also struggle (used to have a petrol Qualcast before that). £50-£80 will get you what you need so not necessary to waste any more money. Cutthe grass every 1-2 weeks and you won't have any problems. I used to leave mine for over a month sometimes when I was away and the Flymo had no problems.

My garden is only tiny, more like 20 x 20, but can;t fault my Bosch Rotak, and have used it on lawns of around 60 x 60. Mine is only the 34, so i expect you would want one of the bigger models ..

Bought it after the Great reviews on amazon, and really gets into the edges by the decking better than anythign else.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Rotak-Electric-Rotar...

Seems to cope pretty well with long and wet grass too. a lot better than a flymo i borrowed before.

I'm well used to using petrol mowers on bigger lawns, but i love the fact there's no bother about petrol, it allways starts etc.. When i use it on my Dad's lawn, i have worked out a route which prevents cable crossing.

One box of grass, and 5 minutes work.

Leaves great stripes in the lawn too smile

I'm sure the OP will buy an electric mower but I must say your old Qualcast must have been crap because most petrol mowers will rip through anything better than any electric/battery/push powered mower.

Well, my old Flymo was great but was 16 years old. I'm sure the new electric rotary mowers must have moved on since then. The electric motors are more powerful at lower rpm (max torque from zero) so are ideally suited to cutting fairly long grass. The petrol mower I had was a cylinder mower an I remember many a time wne it just wouldn't get thru the grass and would often get stuck with the engine almost stalling, so you had to pull it back and take another run up and rev the living daylights out of it. Never had that issue with electric rotary.

I have an old B&Q petrol just to do the fiddly bits the ride on cant reach and it is excellent , first pull every time and plenty powerful enough , all for about £140
