I know this topic has been done to death, and that they'll more than likely get abolished if Brown ever vacates Number 10. Has anybody heard of, or dealt with a company called Valuhips? http://www.valuhips.co.uk/index.php
They seem to be the cheapest I can find in my search so far, but as with everything sometimes they're cheap for a reason. Don't want hassle, but want as cheap as possible! Didn't realise this moving lark would cost so much in fees!!

We completed and moved in last friday.

The pain eek

Get ready to dole out your pounds of flesh to every man and their dog.

Skimping on the HIP will be fine, they are utter bks anyway. But, DO NOT go for a cheap, internet based, conveyancing firm. I did and really wish I'd spent another few hundred on a "real" solicitor.

Even on my simple 3 house chain. 1st time buyer -> us -> vacant property it was a ballache. Simply because we could not speak to our conveyancer direct, on the phone, everything gets chinese whispered to buggery and all goes wrong!

Estate agents too....grrr....lying, manipulative scum, all of you.

I have used them and they were great. Very fast, had the person around to see the house within 2 days. Would highly recommend, cheap, fast and easy.

I used hips4u.com last year, no problems at all. Very quick and efficient and half the price my estate agent was offering them for (and YOU own it, not the agent).

It's only Labour that want to the HIP as far as I'm aware. If this election mess ever gets sorted out the other parties are/were planning on scrapping the HIP and also making the raise to stamp duty a permanent fixture rather than the the year or so that it is at the moment.

I did a quote with valuhips and it came in at £210, myhiphome coming in at £250. Not a great deal of difference in the great scheme of things, but every little helps.

Got a solicitor sorted already, thanks for the advice. Man this is all turning out to be a ball ache at great expense and I haven't even put it on the market yet!

We've just sold and are currently negotiating on a purchase. So far we've spent £350 on a HIP and we've also got almost 9k stamp, 3k estate agent fees and 2k on solicitors. Over 14k and we won't have even purchased so much as a brick on our new property.

I also agree with the comment about a decent solicitor as well - we have one and unfortunately for him I have his mobile and homes numbers as well as his home address so theres no escape from me hehe

Have you looked into using this "tax planning" thingy some solicitors offer.

Ours is on a smaller scale than yours but we have paid £930 in stamp (the solicotrs fee for the planing service) rather than the £1550 we should have paid to HMRC. How this works I have no idea, the wife ticked that particular box when instructing our (cr@p) solicitors.

Cue someone along to tell me I have made an error smile

You get what you pay for. My dealings with them were not problem free.
