We are in the process of buying a house and the boiler is a 20 odd years old free standing type.

We are going to replace the bolier but im unsure if we should stick in a combi or replace it with another free standing bolier.

Anyone done something similar or has any recommendations?

Need a bit more info really.
How big is the house and is the rest of the system the same vintage?
Oil or gas ?

I would want to be very sure before fitting a Combination boiler in place of a vented cylinder system. Make sure the drop in flow rate won't be annoying and the 'eggs-in-one-basket' problem if the boiler malfunctions.
Why go for the big change? Why not just replace the floor stander with a wall hung heating boiler?

should have said it is a gas boiler and the house a large 1930's 3 bed place.

Didn't even think about replacing it with a simple wall hung boiler!
