My missus has somehow managed to snap off one of the retaining lugs inside our vacuum cleaner (and lose the bit of course). It is one of those tiny ones that is only perhaps 3-4mm across sits horizontally, and protrudes 2mm or so. It is used to hold the carbon filter in place. Without the lug the filter does not sit flush, it breaks the seal and hence the vacuum does not work properly. Predictably it is part of the main case of the vacuum.

So, great engineering minds of Pistonheads.... How can I replace / improvise something to hold the filter in place and avoid chucking my expensive vacuum in the bin?

ETA Pic. I have cicled the lug which you can't see as ir clips into that sticky out rectangle bit. Hopefully it illustrates the problem. The fliter sits flat in the top of the vacuum.

I would fix it in with silicone sealer. You can still remove it by cutting away the silicone and it should hold it well enough.

get a thin strip of ally, 90 degree bend in the middle, trim it to fit, silicone it in.

Gaffer tape.

If it still doesn't work, use more.

If you have the possibility of making a small hole in the body, and another in the filter housing, you could pull them together with a cable-tie.
