Ok, we have this problem, been going on for the 15 years I lived in this house, and enough is enough.

If the boiler is on, (for either heating or water, or both), then things that need an FM signal are interrupted with static/crackle every 7 minutes (yes I have timed it!) for about 30 seconds, it used to affect the baby monitors when the kids were little, now it's mainly just radios. It even affects the main stereo system, and the aerial for that is a huge thing on the roof.

We were told it was something in one of the pumps, and had the pumps replaced, but it's still going on.

Any ideas?

Is it 'mains hum' - ie 50Hz?

It's not mains hum, that would be constant.

My parents' old boiler used to do this, though it was much older than that; interfered with radio signal and the TV picture for short periods. From the effect I'd imagine something is sparking, quite possibly in an electric motor. Theirs only went away when the whole boiler was replaced, I'm afraid.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along.

Mine used to do that. I cured it by fitting a suppressor ( this kind of thing ) to the contacts on the thermostatic valve.

Its quite possibly loose connections in the fuse box, if its an old house you end up with all of the screw terminal unscrewing slightly so you have all manor of weird electrical problems like blowing bulbs and the like, you may need to go round taking off all of the mains sockets light switches, ceiling roses etc. and tighten everthing up.. only if you feel upto the job though.

I also get this problem but only on one TV, it's on a new build. Boiler fires and the picture freezes and the sound goes for a few seconds then sorts it's self out.

Thought I might need to put a suppressor somewhere but haven't got round to sorting it out yet.

Cheers Eggman I think that's what's needed. smile
