I came to fit the bath this weekend and as always with any job ran into problems.

Basically all the pipework (4 Pipes) has been run at a low(ish) level againest the wall and I thought it would be nice and tidy hiding them underneath the bath. A cunning plan I thought until I went to offer up the bath and now realise that the metal bath stand now hits the pipes which means I can`t get the bath close to the wall (approx 8cm).

The only ideas I have are to lift the bath up to clear the pipes (approx 20 to 25 cm) not sure if this would appear a little odd . The other idea is to pull the bath out further into the room and make a small shelf where the bath joins the room.

I wondered if I could bend the frame to clear, but don`t have the tools.

Im hoping the PH massive will come up with a cunning plan. :-)

I'd go with the small shelf, as it would provide somewhere to stand the shampoo/oil/whatever when bathing.

Tricky to judge without a photo.

Is moving the pipework not an option?

Ideally I would rather not move the piepwork.... One of the pipes is gas and it will cost me to remove it.

Massively annoying, as it is going to mean a lot of extra work, for what is a minor issue...

If the bath frames are two bits of U or W shaped metal each with 2 adjustable legs on, I'd try the bath without them.
Make up a timber frame for the bath to sit on instead - timber base and more timber around the perimeter/just under the top edge of the bath with vertical struts to support the front edge.
If it feels too wobbley, refit the metal frame and just sit the whole lot on a wooden step - I've done this in our admittedly largish bathroom with about 3 to 4 foot standing room in front of the bath, so we can lie in the bath and look out of the window. Might be possible to make a feature out of the step?
A ledge behind the bath will just collect water, leak, and go mouldy.
Other option is to build an entire false wall to bring the bath forward - could then have some fancy wallmounted taps with concealed plumbing behind.
Or fit a shower smile

a photo or diagram would help...

depending on the size of pipes / length of wall you could put a stud wall in to pack it out - I did it with mine due to similar issues. definitely the lazy option, but I too had gas pipes, c/heating pipes and mains water pipe to contend with.

You'd never know the bathroom was 3" shallower in width either (admittedly it was a wall the width of the bath, so not a major deal....

Good idea about bringing the wall out, unfortunately Im a bit committed now as the boiler is on that wall.

Sounds like a few other people have had this issue before... I might have to create a bath stand with adjustment... You heard it here first folks, I will put my application into Dragons Den.

Im going to go to a guy who use to do all the metal work on my rally car...old school engineering where they all wear blue overalls and still smoke in the work place :-)

They use to be helpful fabricating rally car bits, not sure if they are going to get as excited when I tell them its a bath stand :-)

If not I think cut the bath stand on one side and put some nic timber under the edge.
