Filling in a huge hole in plasterboard... How..?
Discussion
Folks,
My own fault this one
Ok, whilst trying to secure a spot for a firearms rated safe (needs to be attached to exterior wall) I made an inspection hole in some platerboard inside our fitted wardrobes, about 6" sq just to be sure. Now, as it happens we are moving, so I have no further use for this new hole
(there's a good gap of 12" behind it anyway!!!)
So, what's the best way of covering it up? My thoughts were;
1. Filler (lots) - and not sure how to get it to stick to fresh air
2. Plaster (see above comments)
3. Stick some kind of cheap air vent over it with that sticky sealant stuff
Thoughts appreciated..!

thanks for the early suggestions guys, but the hole is huge - it's free air behind it (plumbing space)
At the moment I'm thinking a strategically placed vent..!
Glue some cardboard to the back of the board then. Or just cut a section of plasterboard away and replace it with new board. At the moment I'm thinking a strategically placed vent..!

2 pieces if plaster board about 8" by 4", no more nails round the edges, slide through the hole one at a time and stick them to the back of the main plasterboard wall, when glue drys fill the now shallower hole with filler.
Thats how I'd do it anyway.
Or even one piece cut slightly larger than the hole and with a bit of *strong* string trough a small hole in middle. Thats how I'd do it anyway.
Use no more nails around the edge , wiggle it through the hols at an angle and then pull it into place with string. Cut the string off when the glue has set.
Cut a piece of plasterboard about 2 cm bigger all round than the hole. Make a small hole in the middle and attach a piece of string to be used as a handle.
Place glue/plaster adhesive all round the 2cm overlap.
Insert through hole and then use the string/strap to pull the board back into place behind the hole and let set.
Remove the string/strap and fill in the 9 or 12.5mm deep hole you now have.

As he said above
Beat me to it.

It's getting complicated - I think the vent idea is sounding attractive!

Fill the void with expanding foam and then cut off flush and card over with polyfilla.
Seriously. Cut it out neat to a rectangle and then put a bigger piece of plasterboard with gripfill around the edges. You have a hole bored through the middle of this which you put a bit of string through and a something like a pencil tied to stop the knot pulling though. Pull the string until the patch has stuck. Done.

Easy way ,get some tile batten cut it so it runs about 150mm either side of the hole,
hold behind plasterboard, screw through plasterboard into the batten making sure the screw head sinks in flush
Cut new plasterboard to fit in hole, screw through the new board into the batten
Plaster/polyfill new board and job done.
