Waterproof bathroom TVs?
Discussion
Anyone got one of these? Was lookig for a gimmick for the new ensuite, found a ceilign mounted remote control built in radio, and some lighting gadgets for bathrooms, then cam accross these mirror tvs and waterproof tile tellys. These used to be the stuff of boyhood dreams, (sitting in bath, with a beer watching footy etc!) but seem remarkably affordable now. I found a mini 7 inch screen one, ip67 rated (immersible to 1m depth!) for less than £200 delivered, with waterproof external speakers and remote. Alhtough small, I am tempted to stick on in the end of the bath, the shower can do without as I aint standing up watching the box!
Does anyone have one or have any experiece of these things? Are they a potential load of trouble, ie if tiled in and there are problems? Anyone fried there nuts whilst watching Eastenders in the bath (as if watching the 'Enders is not painful enough!). Are they DIY able, or do they require specialist install, (clearly electrics is specialised in a bathroom).
Interested to hear your thoughts, especially if you think these are "proper pikey!"

I have a 17" LCD TV in the bathroom. I really enjoy soaking in the bath and watching telly
It seems that small screens are 12V, not mains, so the scary mains zzzzzap kill-you bit is up in the roof, and the fluffy child-safe awww cute 12V bit goes down the outside wall, in through a hole and emerges through the 12mm travertine exactly behind the TV.
Important point - I am single and do not throw water over the TV. If you have children (or enjoy throwing water over TVs) get a proper waterproof jobbie - but you will pay handsomely for it.

The one I found is IP67 rated, so it is fully waterproof and can be immersed up to 1m deep, and it is available for less than 200 notes, delivered! It seems like a steal to me, with remote and seperate wp speakers. It's an anologue PAL version, so this may be the reason it is cheaper with the digital switch on due, but the I will be running it off sky so it doesn't matter.

Got a link for what you ordered? Just purely out of interest.
Here it is. It arrived next day, very quick service and looks a very comprehensive kit tbh. Not tested it yet, but aiming to this weekend. For £200 notes I'm proper pleased.http://www.waterprooftvs-direct.co.uk/7tvif700palw...
Service is good from them, seem very genuine and if it works and is reliable, I'll be well chuffed!

What would you use if you wanted to connect it to a DVD player?
I take it that there are waterproof DVD players as well? Or is it a case of having to have it in another room?
There are all sorts of bathroom solutions available.I take it that there are waterproof DVD players as well? Or is it a case of having to have it in another room?
We do a few of them with all the electronics positioned centrally in the home.
The higher end models are better suited to this as they have more control options.

Not sure where that telly is manufactured, be careful if this has been assembled outside the UK, as a lot of them are. Check that it is rated to a minimum of IP65. Just ask them the question!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/19-Waterproof-Bathroom-Telev...

One of my friends runs a company called Tilevision. They manufacture a 19" and 26" unit. All have Freeview built in as well as analogue tuners for Sky distribution. They also have the 'magic eye' built in.
Can be purchased in 2 parts. Back box first then the front panel.
I've bought one myself from the same company for £199.99 delivered, there was an av lead than can be hooked up to a dvd player, as there was 5 metres of cabling at the back this allowed me toensure the dvd remained dry.
Bargain and glad someone else has taken advantage of it at that price!

Still not tried it out, been a bit busy this weekend. Whoever asked about dvds, this cheap one can play them, but only via the compsite yellow input. Quality may not be as good as scart etc, but as it is such a small screen it should still be ok I hope.

Is 7" is a touch too small perhaps? At 6' I would think 10" would be the minimum to watch comfortably.
it is quite small, but I've got good eyes!! (not good enough to decipher "techvision" from "tilevision" though it seems!)I'm going to try the rear screens in the Mondeo out whilst sitting in the boot, in order to recreate the bathroom scenario!
(I will do it naked so as to get the proper effect!)poo at Paul's said:
