Right i moved 2 years ago to a gorgeous old house upon refurbing the whole place i decided that the original fireplaces must be kept intact, the thought of a house with an open fire just got me all happy!! well i soon realised i was s
te at lighting them!!!! lol id spent an hour sorting kindling wood then trying to get it all going, then having to mess around with paper and so on and so on. so when i was at a trackday i spoke to a very old guy about this problem, he replied when i was young we just used a gas poker, after searching high and low, i had my very own gas poker installed( i took ages to find a good quality one), much to the disapproval of my mom and girlfriend, its actually more like a flame thrower!! lol anyhow, i can literally pack the completE logg and coal, go and make a cuppa, by the time its made the fire is roaring!! anyhow heres some pics of the poker, how its installed and then alight. anyhow see my pics below. its makes having an open fire an absolute joy!!! Anyone have one of these or used one?

I'm sorry, but lighting is a fire is one of the easiest things you can do. A few pages from yesterday's paper scrunched up, a few small bits of (seasoned) wood on top and light the paper at the bottom, whats so difficult?
[PH] Uneccesary toy but still a farking flame thrower, so PH points I guess, even if you have failed at what should be a manly task

not sure poke just seemed to take me ages to get one going, i do after a long while, anyhow, this way suits me much more!!! after i get in after working 6-6, i want to be able to light the fire as quickly as possible, i also like not having to mess around with wood/ papaer ect, how i look at it is this, if i can get anythink to make my life alittle easier, why not!!
Loving the thrower but bit disappointed as i was expecting to see a lovely blazing open fire. Having just got my chimney's opened up i have had my first open fire since i moved out of home 10 years ago, i could not wait to get started.

Our nice finished fire.

Some more work needed on this one. Ha Ha.

i was going to take a pic of the poker actually lighting a fire but its mild enough for me to not bother this evening i think, Might as well save the wood/coal for a really cold night. Our nice finished fire.
