relating to this thread

have you claimed on your insurance recently

some of the clothes are burnt but many are heavily smoke damaged

most of the power tools have been hit with water and streaky with smoke

we are fully insured with accidental and personal cover

apart from the £500 on the side to pay the paperman, whats the score ?

will they replace new for old, will they clean them

will they just pay out or request estimates

can I do the work myself or will they insist on 'their company'

I'm not intending scamming at all but don't want some rough arse bodgit co. in my nice self build

any advice welcome

Just done an insurance fire damage claim. The customer had a faulty cooker that caught the floor on fire. The insurance Co will have a nominated builder but you can ask for an independent builder if you'd rather, only differance is your builder will have to quote for the work. On my job the insurance Co wanted everything replaced, inc the flooring, replacing the wallpaper and redecorating ajoining rooms. When it comes to fire/smoke damage they're pretty good.
