Carpet Pile

What is the best way to get back some life into carpets. My carpet is not exactly that old its quite good quality hesian backed but the pile has gone a bit flat around the door areas in the house, is it worth me aquiring a steamer for carpets, only a cheap thingy off of the shopping channel as they are always advertising them. Would this work and bring the pile back up or can anyone recommend another way and i dont mean replacing all the carpets either thats not an option.

Chem-Dry managed to perk my carpets up a bit, but I think that once they're flat, they pretty much flat.
