Mother-in-Law's CH boiler has packed up and I can't get anyone to look at it until Friday - no heating or hot water and she can't be persuaded to move out temporarily. With temps in NE Scotland really low I'm keen to see if I can get it working. We've bought her several portable heaters but I know as soon as we leave house they'll be turned off...stubborn woman

Ravenheat RSF 100E combi boiler.
Power lamp lit, pump and fan don't run with either HW only or HW and heating selected. System pressure is within spec (1.5 bar) No other warning lamps are lit.
Flue is not blocked.
Checked power is getting to control board, power at main boiler switch, but no power getting to fan or pump. Fuses on main board are fine...I'm thinking the problem is in the main control board (electronics)?

Fan is checked free to rotate. Diverter/diaphram valve moves and microswitch is heard clicking when HW tap is opened.

I can pick up a board tomorrow for £120.00 and I reckon it's within my capability to fit. Anything else I can look at before taKing a stab with my diagnosis?

Thanks

If your not CORGI registered could this not affect your MiLs home insurance if you blow the place up etc.

Thanks for replies...no intention of breaching any of the gas systems!

Board replacement simply involves a few electrical connections and in doing that I'd hope to get the pump and fan running which I'd think would be pre-requisites for the gas valve to open?

Was hoping that someone might confirm my train of thought was about right with a duff boardsmile

Does the boiler install / service manual have a fault finding flowchart in it ? Mine was quite useful for diagnosing a fault. Which of course I left to an engineer to fix wink

If it's not triggering the gas valve then I guess it can't be much else, unless any faulty wiring or blown fuses ? I'd be reluctant to do much guessing and part replacing without following a proper service manual flowchart, as it will tell you where to test voltages etc.

Thanks John - yes, that's what I usedsmile

Going to leave it to a "proper" bloke to sort on Monday now...in the meantime, as the Ravensheat boilers seem to be a POS (plenty of problems with them via Google) I'm wondering if it might be a more reliable solution to rip it out and replace with a decent make the next time it falls over - and who would a decent manufacturer be?

I don't really see many Ravenheats (that's a good thing on past experience), but broadly speaking the fan is the first of the gas controls to operate. Once the fan has been proved the boiler will try to ignite.
I assume you've checked for power on the fan terminals when it's all calling for heat?
If there's none, then I'd suspect the fan although the manufacturers fault finding chart is normally a useful item.

No Ferg, no power to fan terminals but fan is free to turn...no power coming off the electronics board to anything which makes me suspect board.

I wonder if you don't see too many Ravenheat units because most installers use a quality brand - they appear to be the sort sold cheaply through the likes of B&Q etc.

Her house is perishing but can't persuade her to move out temporarily - these old folk are made of tougher stuff than me!
