Recommend me a New Iron

My 5 year old iron seeems to be drinking water and putting most of it on the clothes I'm ironing so I think it's to be replaced.........

Have no clue about irons, but need a decent one to......well iron stuff......but doesn't need to be fancy - any recommendations or those to avoid ? Currently using a Rowenta thing that IIRC was about £60 when I bought so around the same level would be fine.

i'm sinking to new lows replying to a thread on ironing, but we can always ask ted to remove this from our ph record.

anyhow, wait til the january sales and buy one of those steam generator things with the seperate tank. a good one will be £100+ but the sale should bring them within your budget. my mum bought me one for xmas last year and i thought it was a rubbish gift, but since changed my mind as it takes seconds to iron a shirt. just don't let any visitors see it as you might get some odd looks

But whatever you choose in the more boring variety make sure you only fill it with distilled water.

Or try cleaning your current one with vinegar.

Have you thought of a steam press rather than a steam iron? Again about £100 but doesn't require a separate ironing-board, so is up and heating in a jiffy. The water tank on mine doesn't need to be emptied whilst being stored (it isn't heated, the unit draws water for steam as it needs it).
Just have to be careful to keep the backs of your hands and fingers away from the hot upper surface!
