If I know the Sq Meterage of a house and the energy efficiency rating, can I easily caculate the BTU and from that the £££ cost of heating?

For ease, lets say 200 sq meters with the lowest enegry rating of very draughty; 'G' (1-20).

The 'standard' calculation is the one used to generate the Energy Performance Certificate that you need as part of the HIPs pack if you sell your house, which includes a basic estimate of energy consumption costs. The full calculation procedure upon which EPC's are based is called a SAP calculation and a full SAP calc give a much more detailed breakdown of the energy efficiency figures.

The software behind it is complex, though, and like all computer software, garbage in = garbage out. If you want to go down this route, you're best off paying a licenced SAP/Energy assessor, therefore - it wouldn't cost much (a typical EPC costs about £75-£100 to the man on the street, I think; we pay £26 IIRC, but then we're doing thousands a year based largely on standard house types, so we get a considerable 'bulk discount').
