Had a problem with the gas boiler over the weekend; brushless DC extractor fan motor bearings have gone crunchy and fan will not spin and thus boiler plc logic won't let it light and house is 'king cold.

Have ordered replacement part, but to fit the extractor hood over the combustion chamber has to come off and it is sealed with some sort of woven ceramic looking rope.

My gas fitter mate will do this work for me, but doesn't come back from holiday till this weekend so I'm trying to get all the materials in ready for his return.

What is this woven rope stuff called and does it come in different sizes and where can I buy it ?

Will he be able to reuse what is already in place or am I correct in suspecting it is one use only ?

This stuff is not really my bag, so apologies if these are daft questions...

Any help gratefully received.

Jon

Does this look like the stuff you need?

It is listed here as fire rope, I would call it intumescent rope. However fire-proof rope is probably what yu need to ask for.
Probably get some at Plumb Centre or the likes. I'd be surprised if your gas fitter mate doesn't have some or at least access to some.
