I HAVE HAD A FEW QUOTES AND THE BLOKE WHO SOUNDS QUITE GOOD AND CAN COME TOMORROW HAS GIVEN ME A QUOTE:

installation of quad-thingy-(like sky multiroom) shy dish on bracket thing that attachs around chimney.

bucks

£110.

that's about right isn;t it?

(??cos it's about 70 for a decent digital aerial installation??)

Sounds about right. Cost me £120 for a long cable run quad LNB dish 2 weeks ago.

Yes but this is not much use if you want Freesat...

No probs. Just to highlight that it was for Freesat; works brilliantly as well. Top Gear HD and not a penny to Sky/Murdoch.... tongue out

i hate not having HD. been without it for a couple of months now! hence need to re-install in new house.

problem is you need both freeview and freesat to get all the free channels... unless Dave is now on freesat..?

If you already have a 2nd box to use Sky won't fit a new LNB, but if you pay £46 for a second box for multi-room they should do it. Not sure if they would charge or not, complain and tell them to cancel the lot if they do, usually does the trick.

If a self install depending on the mk of dish you can get a new quad LNB for £15-25 from Satcure.co.uk also gives advice on installs. Cable can be got anywhere. If it's a mk1 sky minidish you may need to replace the whole dish and LNB. This is only £50 in total.

All you need is.
New LNB (with or without dish)
cable, good quality
2-4 threaded connectors
silicon grease

plus a ladder and head for heights. smile

Easy. If you are replacing the dish you may need to re-allign it for the signal, either match the previous dish and make small adjustments using the sky signal test ( option 4, then 6) getting signal quality as high as possible or buy an online meter that you can use at the dish end.

I think that about covers it, for now. You really shouldn't be paying over £100 for something so easy to do yourself.

i have no dish and it needs to go on chimney with a bracket.

so it'll be a fair bit in parts anyway.

to be honest if i am out of pocket by 40 i can handle that as i have loads of other stuff to be getting on with as well.
but i do see where you're coming from.
