Soffits and fascias fitter in the Basingstoke area
Discussion
Hi all,
We're looking to replace our existing soffits and fascias with UPVC equivalents as they are starting to fall apart. We would also like to replace the guttering at the same time. The house is detached and was built around 1980.
I'm looking for recommendations of local fitters + any general advice from those who have been through the same thing before.
Hope this hasn't been covered before - did try searching first...
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Ian

Giving this one a quick bump
Maybe Basingstoke is too specific an area - would anyone out there recommend one of the national fitters? my gut instinct is to feel that I'm being ripped off when I approach those types but maybe someone out there had a good experience in the past?
Thanks again

Can't help with fitters, but having done this myself recently, I would say go for full replacement, not over cladding of the old wood (even though they will tell you it's sound...). Far better job, but more time consuming.
Also push for a venting along the top of the fascia (the vertical), hidden under the tiles, rather than the quicker and easier vented soffit board (the horizontal). The visible holes in the soffit board quickly get full of cobwebs and start looking nasty, where as the fascia vent can be hidden under tiles / behind the guttering, and provide a run for the felt into the gutter. Basically a 10mm equiv. constant air gap needs to be maintained all round the roofline for building regs, assuming normal roof pitch.
FWIW materials to do a 3 bed semi, bought from a building plastics place in Brum came in at ca. £300 inc. VAT. That's full replacement fascia, wenting, new guttering etc. Oh, and I have a fair bit left over!
