We've been with EON for the past year, the past 8 months on their online only 'cheapo' tarrif, the monthly bill has been £62 which was set round about the winter time last year so based on high usage, our account is currently in credit by about £60.

Today we received a letter saying the monthly payment will go up to £82! WTF, nothing has changed in the house so usage is going to be similar I should imagine, it seems a bit random and opportunist to me to be charging and extra £20 per month.

I'm going to update the online readings, hopefully that will brings the cost back down.

I've had my bill from Npower today, combined gas and electric. Currently pay £97 a month by DD. Account is £85.41 in credit. They are increasing my DD to £103?!?

Dump the DD, which to a privatised utility means 'fill yer boots', and just pay what the actual bill is each quarter.

TBH I'd hoped that with keeping them updated with regular readings that would mean that the account would stay 'true', shows how wrong I am!

NPower give £100 discount on your yearly bill if you pay DD

I suspect it's more 'Penalty if you don't let us boost our short-term profitability' - but I agree it's an attractive carrot - so if you don't mind propping up their cashflow in the meantime I suppose it'll shake out eventaully. For them, it's an interest-free loan though.

Or you could change provider to one which doesn't penalise you £100 for choosing your preferred means of payment smile

Is that electric only? Or dual fuel? Seems an awful lot...

2 Adults one 2 year old.

The £150 is dual fuel (Gas and Electric) - After seeing this thread I checked to see if I could switch to another tariff and we were on the cheapest one!

The Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer and Dishwasher seem to be on 24x7 - Plus we have spot halogen spot lights that run at around 10p per hour for each room.

If you own the place and are looking at staying there for a while, you might also want to consider the thermal efficiency of your home. In the medium term do you see energy costs rising, falling, or staying the same? If you already consider energy bills high enough, thank you very much, you might want to give that question some thought.
