Bamboo worktop 'stave'
Discussion
What is the stave of a wooden worktop, and what's considered good/bad?
I was looking for bamboo, and one company's website (www.hardwoodfloorstore.co.uk) said "Our Premier Bamboo worktops are constructed from our new full stave narrow style 7mm wide staves, whilst the Second Nature bamboo worktops have 20mm wide short staves"
It then went on to say "better quality 7mm wide FULL STAVE caramel Bamboo. The staves run the full length of the worktop".
So, I imagine stave is a strip of the natural wood, but I would have thought a wider strip is best?

So which (wider or narrower stave) is considered best? I think I would prefer the look of a wide strip, but not seen any samples.
Wide stave is normally more expensive as there's more wastage - but in this instance they are claiming 'full length' instead which might redress the issue. Anyway, generally speaking, the bigger the chunks of wood, the greater the cost. To take extremes, you have solid wood at one of the scale and chipboard at the other See www.withknobson.com/acatalog/natural-bamboo-wooden... for comparison - and you can order samples.
