What is the stave of a wooden worktop, and what's considered good/bad?

I was looking for bamboo, and one company's website (www.hardwoodfloorstore.co.uk) said "Our Premier Bamboo worktops are constructed from our new full stave narrow style 7mm wide staves, whilst the Second Nature bamboo worktops have 20mm wide short staves"

It then went on to say "better quality 7mm wide FULL STAVE caramel Bamboo. The staves run the full length of the worktop".

So, I imagine stave is a strip of the natural wood, but I would have thought a wider strip is best?

Does it make any difference other than aesthetic ? The staves must be glued and compressed together somehow no matter how wide they are.

Aesthetics is teh main reason for my question. Couldn't see the difference in the images, so wanted to be sure what I was looking for.

A stave refers to a length of wood, usually one piece, its just fancy marketing bumf.

So which (wider or narrower stave) is considered best? I think I would prefer the look of a wide strip, but not seen any samples.

I have the second nature bamboo in my bathroom and really like it. I was worried it would mark easily but so far it's been great. I treated it with a number of coats of Danish oil before and after fitting.

Wide stave is normally more expensive as there's more wastage - but in this instance they are claiming 'full length' instead which might redress the issue. Anyway, generally speaking, the bigger the chunks of wood, the greater the cost. To take extremes, you have solid wood at one of the scale and chipboard at the other smile

See www.withknobson.com/acatalog/natural-bamboo-wooden... for comparison - and you can order samples.

Just to update, on the website I found a reasonably well hidden link to the 7mm stave worktop, and can see the obvious difference now! And I much prefer the 7mm! Thanks all for your help!
