I bought one of these made by Samsung 7 years ago and it has packed in and seems irrepairable. I need to replace it, but it won't be another Samdung.

Any recommendations? Or are they all trouble?

I think the ones to go for are the Maytag trio. Same company, different branding.

Admiral
Maytag
Amana

We have had an Amana side by side stainless jobbie with ice dispenser and crusher on the door, for 5-6 years now.

Touch wood, its been faultless.

You will pay a premium for the American branded ones, but it does seem you get what you pay for.

(n.b. Get the filters from the US direct i paid £15 each as opposed to £65 which was quoted by Maytag UK).

Yep, we have a Maytag. They're supposed to be good for 30 years but if the compressor goes it's a £700 job, which is probably about what a Samsung costs in total.

Ours (it's stainless steel) was £1800 9 years ago and that was *very* cheap - they were £2500 in most places.

Where from, please? We buy ours from FridgeFilters.com when we're in the US but I don't remember them being that cheap.

We have a Maytag too and would definately get another. We have bought filters on e-bay, even with shipping costs they are much cheaper than buying over here.

That brings up 28,200 hits.

I already have a source in the US (fridgefilters.com) so I can get them for about $30 each if I buy 3 or 4 at a time, and shipping is free within the US. They'll deliver to a hotel, so I tie that in with US trips and it works great.

However I don't have a reasonably priced (including delivery) source in the UK.

www.fridgefilters.com

Last year paid $150 x6 & $20 shipping international (took about a week)

With the US$/GB£ rate 1.56 today (and px now $199 x6) still looks like £23 ish instead of £65.

Check back every month or so. They have deals on once or twice a year.

Ah, thanks. Same source and price as I use. You should be paying duty on top, although me buying them in the US means paying sales tax.

Actually they've got mine, UKF7003, for only £25ea. Still a dearer than $34 in the US, but that's the cheapest I've ever seen in the UK.

last week I had an LG GWL227HBQA installed and it is nice looking bit of kit with plenty of space inside. can't tell you how good it is yet but at £900 it seemed a good deal. I trawled around for quite a while before settling on the LG

My Maytag rocks!

if you dont mind seconds, then ebay is the place to look. rrp was over 2.5k, I think I paid £750, cos it had a small dent on one side which you cant even see as its built into a kitchen unit

THanks, never considered that. The Maytags do look cool.

That might be why it was cheap then.

I did have to build little concrete ramps for ours as there's no adjustment on the rear rollers.

I've got an LG, and use it for a business (quite large 36/70), it's been great so far (nearly 5 years old) and looks good too.

(kiss of death for my fridge/freezer)
