Hi all,

I am after a good socket/spanner set as my draper one is looking rather depleted! I don't want to go to mad on price.

A mate has this and is very pleased http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...

I don't want to spend much more than 200 quid. I have always been a fan of Teng stuff but am struggling to find a good sized set for a 'reasonable' price.

Any other recommendations??

Email me, I work for a gedore group company and we've got just the thing. Its a Carolus brand socket set with 1/2" and 1/4" drive sockets and ratchets for £116.50 plus VAT and delivery.

We supplied one to the guys in the office next door and they're really happy with it. If you want a combination spanner set as well we can do a pack of 8 spanners (8,9,10,11,13,14,17,19mm) for £22.95.

The quality of this stuff is not quite as good as Gedore (best available but they're expensive!) but is better than teng, halfords etc.

Let me know!

Just tried emailing you but it is not allowing me.

Can you either change your settings on here to let me email you or can you email the details to me through my profile.

How many pieces is the socket set?

Doh screwed up there. Have since emailed you. Socket set is 48pcs (I think - I had to count it from the picture as its not listed!)

Socket set is:
1/2" ratchet, 3 1/2" extensions (75mm, 125mm, 250mm), 1/2" Sockets (10mm - 24mm) plus a universal joint in this size.

and

1/4" ratchet, 2 1/4" extensions (50mm, 100mm) 1/4" sockets (4 - 13mm), 1/4" universal joint and screw driver and torx head bit sockets

email sent with my work contact details on.

Is it anything like the set on page 5 of this brochure?

http://www.premierbearing.co.uk/Documents/Offer%20...

This one doesn't seem to offer the extension bars though. Must be an old range?

Halfords Professional range is meant to be good and I believe it still comes with a lifetime warranty. Seem to recall they had an offer with that socket set last time I was in there. If you know anybody with a trade card, or qualify yourself, you should get one cheaper.

I have a Gedore set bought new in the late 70's. It's had plenty of abuse and nothing has broken. I can't vouch for the current range though.

I bought a briefcase-sized set of 'Metrinch' sockets and combi spanners about 12 years ago and nothing's broken yet after countless scrapyard tussles, home car repair/servicing and rebuilding a couple of engines. There's a lifetime guarantee, although I've not had to use it. It was this set, although I recall only paying 100 notes for it back then. Even the case has not fallen apart, which usually happens with these. They fit imperial and metric nuts, and usually aren't defeated even when the nut is heavily rusted.
