I've had a look onthe internet and have found alot of info on this, but I just want to check before I proceed...

I blive that I:

1. Use joint filler to fill any gaps in the joints
2. Put self adhesive plasterbaord tape over teh joints
3. Allow this to dry then it's ready to PVA seal and plaster

THere was some confusion as people seem to put plasterboard cement over the tae, but I believe this is just for drywalling when you don't plaster over the board. Is this correct?

That's pretty much it. You'll want to dilute the PVA before you paint it on though, should say on the pot how much water to use. When I replaced a section of one of ceilings some time back I didn't even bother with the pva, just damped it first and then plastered over it. Hasn't fallen off yet. I did find the self adhesive tape wasn't that adhesive though and needed a bit of plaster to hold it in place.

I've found that the fibreglass tape is better than the masking tape style stuff. The filler adheres to it much better, but then i was drywalling rather than plastering over - so the tape choice might not matter.

Use the fibreglass mesh type, no need to fill the "gaps" as long as the tape covers them. The plaster will fill the gaps for you. Don't overlap the tape.

No no no....you're all wrong. Use what the last occupier of my house did....Brown parcel tape, leaves a lovely shine!

Just had my bedroom replaster boarded, and plastered....and yes mesh tape seems to be the way to go. Just make sure it is covered properly by the plaster!

What he said.

No need to fill or PVA. Just scrim the joints and skim.
