We moved into our new build last summer and so far in the garden it is pretty bare save for the garden at the bottom right and 5 bushy things which I planted back in April, which whilst they do look nice enough don't really fill the garden up.

I'm looking at planting down the sides (the garden is roughly badminton court sized) things which will grow reasonably quickly and also be dog friendly.

Any suggestions greatfully received as I have no idea about gardens at all!

The most successful things in my garden have been Hebe and Anemone Japonica, both of which seem to grow and thrive regardless. Fuchsia is also easy and has lovely red flowers for a long time.

Strange you should mention Hebe one of mine has suddenly tuned up its toes and died this summer. The other which has been badly treated, left in a pot to dry out scores of times is flourishing!

Fuschias are good but he may want to look for the frost resistant ones, although not guaranteed they should last. Dahlias are good for a lovely display of flowers although they die back in the winter. I leave mine in the gound all year, me neighbour digs his up and stores them before replanting. He is usually grumpy as mine then turn out better than his!
