I've got a big mirror that needs hanging, its in a frame so it is essentially going to be hung like a painting or picture, with wire on a hook or 2.

Its going onto a breeze brick wall with plaster over it.

The thing is all the picture hooks I've seen in B&Q et al are only rated for 7kg max.

Does anyone have any suggestions of any meaty hooks to use that take a bit more weight?

and save me from this most mundane of dilemas.

Cheers

I would put a couple of suitably placed and sized screws into the wall, making sure they have a fairly big flange, and then hang the picture wire on that. Picture hooks are as you have seen, are not really up for the job of a big mirror.

Yep, by far the best way. Only thing i'd add is, angle the drill very slighty so the screws are sloping upwards a tad.

Hmm, the most obvious answer, why did I not think of that!

Why would I want to slope the screws upwards? Surely it would be downwards a touch, i.e. with the tip pointing down?

It's semantics as I believe you're both talking about the same thing.

Depends which end you're looking from! The pointy end is down, the head end is up smile

But yes, I'd agree with wire and big screws - using two will stop the mirror getting easily knocked off-beam.

Good point (no pun intended), not thought of that and makes sense.
