Woodburner and swirling smoke
Discussion
I have a wood burning stove that burns very well and produces plenty of heat but I have a smoke problem.
I live In a single storey building with larger buildings either side. The position causes swirling winds and they tend to blow the smoke down rather than away which can be a problem for myself and my neighbours. I have a standard flue cowl similar to the one below.
My question is will one of the spinning 'anti down draught' type cowls help reduce the probelem or is there another type of cowl or solution that may help?
Getting close to me wanted to fire it up again so want to get it sorted sooner rather than later!
over to you chaps, cheers!

I reckon you've answered your own question - if you are single storey, and all around are twice the height, you'll quite possibly need a taller flue to clear the swirling draughts created just above your own roof.I live In a single storey building with larger buildings either side. This site shows what you need on a standard roof - you may well need to extend your flue beyond your neighbours ridge heights to get a clean draw. I'd search for a chimney sweep to come out and give advice - there's a national sweeps website, but I can't remember what it's called.
To clear the the neighbours ridge height I would need a 5m flue! the main problem is the smoke blows down to ground level and swirls around in front of my house and blows in through my windows and doors.
I need to try and get the smoke to rise (its worse in the first hour or so)
Is there anything on the market that would help? would a spiral vortex band help, as I think thes help move the wind around and up? but not sure!
