I have asked a cleaner to come every other week for a couple of hours, I only have a 2 bed flat, but I have loads on and in the next couple of weeks when I'm back at uni I'll be juggling FT uni, work, my son, a huge research project so I'll be spending every spare minute going to schools and nurseries testing & hockey. Mainly to help with the little things you miss, if you have one/have had what do they do? smile

We have two women come (for insurance reasons) for one hour every fortnight. They basically do whatever you want within reason. We leave one of them a pile of ironing and the other one gives the house a quick once over. £27 a fortnight.

Ooh I can give her ironing? I might give her an hours worth of ironing and an hours worth of general cleaning then, the place is generally clean & tidy so it shouldn't be difficult to whizz over it quickly.

I got a discount because I found this company on netmums and am paying £7 an hour!

Ah, we go on netmums as well. Well, my missus does. Might be worth checking to see if they do ironing first. We just leave them a cheque and maybe a note of which rooms to concentrate on.

lol, no webcams or hand cream, if there is any evidence of squirting on my monitor I'll be less than impressed.

Is there anything she should have i.e id etc so I know I'm not just letting some random into my house?

I was going to stay in today and just keep out of her way but should I go out? even the first time she's here? I've made a list, vacuum, clean bathroom and kitchen floors as long as she has wood cleaner, wipe down the sides/kitchen cupboards, window sills, windows, dusting, clean bathroom, what am I missing?

Get out and stay out after showing them where everything is and where everything goes.

You will feel uncomfortable and so will they.

Leave a fiver or a tenner in a semi-obvious (not too obvious) place to test the trustworthiness.

Do NOT do this as they know about this trick and will instantly take a dislike to you for not trusting them.

Cleaners will do pretty much anything (steady now you know what I mean!). Ours comes in twice a week , 2 hours 1 day 1 hour the other day. She does:

Ironing
Cleans worksurfaces, doors and sink in kitchen and mops floor
Puts living room back the way it should be (tidies etc)
Dusts everywhere, hoovers downstairs and upstairs
Cleans windows inside every 2-3 weeks
changes beds
cleans all the bathrooms, showers and baths, cleans floors
cleans mirrors, doorhandles and other shiny stuff
Tidies the kids bedrooms (even though shes told not to as the kids are supposed to do it)

The only thing she doesnt do is clean the toilets, so my Mrs does that.

Mine does ironing - charges £7 an hour and does about 10 shirts and 8 pillowcases and 2 dresses and duvet cover in that time
