I've got a set of these (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_530639_langId_-1_categoryId_165469) calipers which I must have put back in the box still turned on, as the batter is dead as a dodo.

Does anyone have any idea of how I get in to replace the battery (assuming its possible)?

To the right of the screen is a panel with moulded horizontal ridges. Slide this panel to the right to expose the bat.

Excellent, thanks. Didn't actually think that panel moved it looked so tight.

Any idea what the panel on the side with the mini-USB shaped (sort of) slot is for?

That is for rigging up to a computer to do a measurement program on a part. I dodn't explain that well.

It's for a computer based quality system whereby you can measure predetermined points on a part and the computer will give you a pass or fail once you've finished.
