Has anyone else used the services of ratedpeople.com?

No, not some hooker comparison site (simples!), a general trades persons site where customers can leave feedback on their choice of builder/plumber/sparky for others to see.

I've used it once and had poor results. I asked for 3 quotes and I got 3 phone calls, but only 1 turned up to actually quote. The quote was massive and they put a callout fee on it which I did not pay.

I'm sure other people have positive experiences, but I'll use word of mouth

good thing about mybuilder is that you can be very specific about what you wnat doing and THEY comtact you, so you actually get peopel who want the job as opposed to cold calling via the yellow pages etc to peopel who are always busy.

But do you really want just the people who are desperate for work contacting you?

If I get a sales lead I follow it up. No leads = no work smile

After a few hours of wandering around the site, and popping on a few jobs, it seems you can review the ratings of those companies/people who show interest in the work. The ratings come from customers who have had similar work done.

its a good way of finding single tradesmen who dont necessarily advertise all over the place.

plus they may be willing to fo it cheap

as someone else says, it uses a rating system similar to ebay.

I used them for my bathroom. All three plumbers turned up and quoted. Two came some distance to quote so they really wanted the work. One of them told me that as they have to pay to use the service they tend to want to be sure they convert enquiries into work, thus giving the enquirer (you) a good response.

Ultimately, through events I had little control over, I went with someone else but I would have been happy to use the I got through ratedpeople.

I had a plasterer come from that site last year - top job. Currently in the process of getting the garden overhauled with a guy who quoted after I posted on there. Seems pretty good.

I've just had some work done using someone I found from that site, and highly recommend it. As the builder himself said "you can't muck about when using that site because one bad mark against you and you are stuffed"
