I'm putting in a new ensuite showerroom with a new gas boiler (a combi). How much hassle and extra cost is a power shower likely to be... just a ballpark figure please :-)

Hi,

You don't need a 'power shower' with a combi boiler as the hot water pressure is good enough without having to be pumped.

You will need a decent thermostatically controlled mixer shower though, to 'iron out' any water temperature variations caused by people drawing off water from other taps etc.

Yeah what he said ^

A shower pump may try to draw the hot water faster than your combi can supply it which means a cold shower.

I used a Mira Fino in the same situation - thermostatically controlled and I couldn't run the thing on more than half power as it became painful, the pressure was so great.

Cost 175 quid or so IIRC

Showerpumps are not designed to have big static pressures on the inlet, so pumps on combination boiler fed hot water OR mains cold water are a big no-no.

I think my statement wasn't clear enough.
What I was trying to say is that as you can't run a power shower with a combi boiler, when I had my combi boiler fitted, I also had a Mira Fino shower installed. (it's technically called a thermostatic mixer shower I believe)

You are NOT allowed to pump mains water.
The Water Bye-laws in the UK do not permit the direct connection of a pump to the mains supply. Even a pressure washer bought from the Garden Centre to clean your block paving is technically illegal. The correct way to solve the problem of low water pressure is to install a break tank.
