After 13 years my original dishwasher has finally expired frown.....well not quite but it's going to cost over £100 just for the part alone so not worth it......

So I need a new dishwasher - must be fully integrated to go into the kitchen and as cheap as they come (within reason) as not really bothered by brand or number of super washing cycles etc.

So far the cheapest but OK looking one seems to be a Smeg at around £280. (http://www.bootskitchenappliances.com/Product_Information.aspx?BackLink=Product_Listings&ProductID=10068&ProductCode=DI612CA1&ProdColourID=15673&specification=false)

Anyone have any other recommendations ?

When someone recommends Miele, as they invariably will, feel free to punch them nuts

We've got a Smeg one, which we bought two years ago. It washes dishes, and (touch wood) hasn't broken down yet.

Another vote for Bosch. Now on a Siemens (Bosch with different display panel). Heater went on the Bosch but it had done hundreds of washes and I reckoned something else would soon require repair so changed it.

Don't think we payed more than £350 for our Bosch one about 2 years ago and it's been fantastic.

Hmmm but if it lasts 10 years that £13 a year, or 1 pint of beer every 3 months. Just buy the bloody thing!

Got a Smeg one here (integrated thing) & it does what it says on the tin really. It's on once a day & washes the pots. Think its got 5 or 6 programmes of which I use 2. Beeps when its finished & its pretty quiet. Couldn't see what a Miele one would do that this one wouldn't. Paid about the £280 mark.

Second or third vote for Bosch. We started with Indesit, cheapo brand appliances 13 years ago. Each one gave up the ghost and were replaced with Bosch. Even when bits break, they've been available online (eg fascia panel/handle for £25).

If by 'integrated' you mean 'fitted' rather than 'stand alone', then the advice given to me three years ago might be useful: twenty years ago, if you bought fitted, you would pay double but it would last three times as long (saving you the hassle of a refit, maybe two). That is no longer true, you still pay double but they are not better built.

We bought a stand alone Bosch, and so far, so good. Low £300s, says the goldfish.

Best of luck.

Been asking the same question this week. I never wanted a dishwasher, as I'm happy washing up, but getting our kitchen extended at the mo and decided we might as well get one now. I looked at the cheapies as I was really not that interested, but started to read a lot of stuff and eventually decided to spend a bit more. My choice at the cheaper end was a Smeg, but I read that they don't wash that well and are not known for their reliability (sorry to anyone here who has one, but just what I read!). On another thread here someone said that the German brands are best (Neff, Siemens, Bosch) so I'm probably going for an entry level Bosch. SGV53E33GB at appliancesdirect.co.uk I reckon.

Try and avoid Indesit.

Bought one that was on offer at B&Q as money was getting tight after finishing the house (2 year refurb). It played up 3 times in the first 6 months so I took out the extended warranty, something that I dont normally do but has been worth it.

All in all its broken down or not worked correctly about 10 times in 2 years. Anything from not taking the tablets (doesnt like 10 in 1 so the service guy says), faulty water spinner, cutlery cage broken and keeps coming up with error codes. I now end up ignoring the error codes as I was spending half of my time waiting in for the engineer.

Ok so it was cheap and I keep hoping the warranty insurance people see sense and replace it, but hopefully not with another Indesit. Even the service guy says he has Miele at home !!!

We've had our Smeg for three years and touch wood no problems.

Keep your eye out as they frequently offer a free five year parts and labour guarantee. wink
