After years of staying at my parents or in mates spare rooms I'm finally getting my first place pretty soon so now I need to get myself a sofa. The problem is they all seem to take ages to get to you.

Has anyone got any idea where I would be able to get a corner style sofa for around £600 without hanging about waiting on the floor for 6 weeks.

Surely there must be some kind of warehouse somewhere where you just turn up, look at the sofas and they pull one out for you then you take it home, it must be that simple, my parents ended up waiting 6 months for theirs. I'm in essex so if anyone has an idea of where to go anywhere in east anglia/hertford/east london it would be much appreciated smile

If you're not so fussed about it being a generic DFS type of sofa then pop along to your local store and have a sniff around in the bargain area at the back of the shop. You'll be buying 'that actual sofa' rather than ordering one.

Land of leather has been liquidated and its remaining stock is in lakeside retail park, all very good price and you can take the same day of you want!

IKEA Lakeside has to be worth a go. Think of it as a giant MacDonalds and you'll be OK.

£600 quid is not a lot, but DON@T go to DFS or the such like they are ste, not worth it no matter what.

Best bet for that money would be a secondhand one ( loot or ebay etc ) you can get it quick and you can get a much better quality one for your money ( john lewis, conran, even a marks a sparks one ).

Other option is ikea but do spend as much as you can as although they are better, the cheap one are that cheap, £600 might just scrape you a alright one but you might get a student/rental designed to last a year or two max jobbie.

If it were me I would go the second hand route, found my friend a 8ft by 5 ft cream leather sofa in loot for £30, it had a bit of scratching where the cat used to sit much not much, main thing was he had to rent a van, bt he ended up with a £2500 sofa as the guy needed it shift asap.

Trust me I am a doctor Upholsterer

Try an auction mate (as in a proper one). I saw a load of furniture go through last week at an auction near me for silly money. Brown leather 3-piece for £40 - was slightly grubby from being in storage but still it was only £40! Comfy as well (I was sat on it all dayhehe) Nobody wants it as most people these days seem to prefer the £40pm over 48months option.....

Cheers guys.

I don't think I could handle owning a sofa from IKEA, ok for little bits but not sure about their furniture since my last wardrobe fell apart.

Looks like I'm going to lakeside tonight though so I'll take a look and also see what the land of leather liquidation is like.

I'll have a look for local auctions as well but not sure about them.

I'm not keen on the DFS thing, don't like finance and they always seem to take ages to come through so I'd rather just pay and take it home that day

Actually - I have a genuine 1950s utility/club style settee (leather with velvet cushions) that needs a new home and is in Essex. Rather worn but built like a brick wotsit - if interested PM me with e-mail address for a photo.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Land of leather just a poorly made as DFS, I have a offer from one of the suppilers of a range that they do for a three piece leather suite for £295 ( if I buy three sets ) what price did they sell it at ? £2675, reduced to £895 in the sale.

To give you an idea a cheap hide of leather costs £40-70 a hide, trade ( bought in quantities of 50+ ) a three seater sofa would use about 4 hides, so imagine what price they are buying their leather at ( and the quality of it ) and how much is left for labour, shipping ( from china ) then add another 100% margin and you realise that leather suite you have bought is had about no time spent on it by a unskilled chinaman and made of lepritic cows skin.

Looks good in the show room though

Check out Nabru:

http://www.nabru.co.uk/index.php?oscsid=vu4uotels7...

Cheap and do last quite a while.

I have 2 and they have been great and very comfy.

They are easy to get up stairs if you do ahve a flat and if you dam age it you can get the bits you need to repair it.

Obviously if I didnt live in the rafters of a building I would get a better one, but for the fact its a PITA to get one up the stairs I went for this.

Haha, good call but I'm pretty sure it was put together properly, it was just parts that should be solid and possibly screwed in that come as plastic bits that pop in and stay in place by hope were the downfall of my cupboard, resulting in a few creased suits.

I've had a look at that nabru place and ordered some samples so I'll get an idea of what they're like but as my DIY skills are being questionned it might not be the best idea wink
