Need some advice, over the weekend my drains blocked - happens every 3-4 months due to the oldest child (21) refusing to use normal toilet paper and insisting on using the babies wet wipes (Don't get me started on it) ! Our Mantiar can't break down the wipes.
So normal procedure is to rod the drains. All going well, as well as rodding drains can go and then I pull the rod back and the last one with the plunger is missing. It has detached itself whilst in the drain ans is now nowhere to be seen. Have had a reach with my arm in a bin liner but no luck.
Any ideas as to how to get it out, preferably that doesn't include ringing through the Yellow Pages for a drain specalist.
Cheers everybody !

I have no idea about your plumbing issue, but tell your offspring to use Andrex loo wipes. Or, if they're trying to retain that "3 years old" feeling, Kandoo wipes. They do the same job but don't block the loo. wink

How slim is teh 21 Y/O. It was their fault send them in after it. It'll soon stop them doing it again.

You're options are in order of cost:

  • Fashion a hook for your rod and get fishing.
  • Call in dyon-rod or similar
  • In xtreme case dig up drains.
  • In all events charge the 21 Y/O for the costs.

always pull or push the rods with a clockwise twist at the same time wink

Can you not push the lost item along to or from the next chamber ?

Can't push from one chamber to the next as it is stuck between Mantair and first chamber. Can't rod from mantair back only towards the unit.
Fishing seems like a good idea but what to use, would need to be flexible to get from suface into drain down the manhole. Hose maybe but can't see that working.

As for 21yr old if I had my way he'd be living in the Mantair - right nightmare and a whole other story. The joys of being the step father !

"He" and he uses baby wipes rofl O/P you have my deepest sympathies.

I'm pretty sure that you can buy hooks that attach to the threaded end of your drain rods.

ETA http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/12-piece-drain-rod-set... This kit has a double worm screw for retrieving stuff.

Your rod set may have one of those spiral hook jobies which would work quite well for catching the missing rod.

Now tell me that is what is on the end of the missing rod.

If so even better. Buy another one as it will catch nicely in the first one.

Steve

PS Always keep twisting clockwise.

I think the phrase to use on him is 'man up!'

And sending him a link to this thread so he can see us all guffawing might help smile

I suspect if he uses baby-wipes, he's been "manning-up" a lot recently hehe
