I'd like to cover an area of approx 8.5m x 3.0m in my garden with woodchip. In order to get a sufficient depth it strikes me that I'm going to need a lot.

Are there sources other than those big bags you get from B&Q/Garden centres? Can I get it delivered? How much should I have to spend to cover an area this size?

I'm near Reading if that helps inform your answers....

Thanks in advance

Yep you can buy it in bulk usually by the m3.

These are the guys I have used in the past for similar projects.

Not sure what's going on with the pricing on that site though. Last time I ordered (20 cubic metres) I paid £30 m3

Try a local tree surgeon, most will do you a free truck load or 2 if you don't mind it fresh, but common courtesey say's you should give 'em a slab of beers;)

Might be worth ringing Meakins building supplies (based in Spencers Wood): I know they will deliver 1 ton bags of topsoil, but maybe they do woodchip as well?

Try builders merchants in your area, if a hiab crane won't be able to unload in your designated area then make sure you've got a wheel barrow or 2 and a few mates to help you shift it to where its needed.

do you mean mulching rather than woodchip (i.e. the wall covering)?
