Got a new carpet being fitted tomorrow and apparently, I need to caulk round the bottom of the skirting board to stop dust/crud blowing in and staining the edge of the carpet. No problem.

The guy who measured up also said that we need to fill the joints of the T&G chipboard floor (to stop ridges appearing in the carpet over time?) but the missus can't remember what he said to use - can I use caulk, or would wood filler be a better solution? I guess it neds to be a bit flexible?

Never heard this before. Are you having underlay?

I'd imagine caulk would be fine for both applications though.

Yep - having underlay as well.

Didn't bother in the end as I thought it was overkill - could understand it more if it was a high-traffic area but not a bedroom.

My parents had this in their house - long dirty lines along the edge of the room where air was passing into the room from the space below the floor. When they had the carpets replaced, my father used cheapo silicone sealant all around the room and solved the problem.
