Hello,
I am interested in purchasing a small amount of land behind my house that belongs to the County Council. The land is currently a school and the part I am interested in is unused. My house backs straight onto the school land (no back garden) and this would be beneficial to us, and the school, as we would not need to get permission from the school to do maintenance to the house.

Do you think they would go for this and how much might we be looking at? Size is approximately 20m x 2.5m. Also which department in the council should I approach?

Many thanks
Pete

Not sure on whether they will sell or not but, an old business partner of mine purchased a similar sized piece of land off his local council (Haringey). The cost; sixpence for the stamp he had to sign over to purchase said land. I hope your council is as accommodating as his was.

Councils usually have an 'estates' or 'property' department to deal with this kind of thing. Depends on whether the council own the land or whether its the local education authority or some other person who leases the land to the school. The head teach should know.
