Old one is dying so will require a new one soon.Been looking at Worcester Bosch among others and these seem to get reasonably good feedback ( but not always).Any others to consider? Any real advantages to get a combi or best to stick with a regular boiler( I'm quite happy with my airing cupboard and water tank set up !)And where is the cheapest best place to get one?

My parents replaced a conventional boiler with a combi in their 4-storey old house. It's fine when there's just the two of them, but if they have guests then they can encouter shortages of hot water if two hot taps (or showers) are opened together. Thermostatic showers help minimise the unpleasant consequences, but that's another expense to consider. Maybe an uprated boiler would help too, but knowing my parents they wouldn't have cut corners when choosing theirs.

I had a condensing boiler in my last house and it was utterly brilliant - better in my opinion to use than a combi and very efficient.

Not worried about buying one, more to check prices so that I can check that whoever does get one for me isn't ripping me off by adding "their" 50%

So you expect tesco to sell you a tin of baked beans at cost? or are they ripping you of? Plumbers are in business to make a profit so why cant we add a margin?

Look at Baxi as well for boilers. Combi's are more suited to a house where you are only likely to have one shower/ one bath wanting to be run at a time.

There are advantages and disadvantages to a combi over a boiler/ cylinder setup.

No cylinder - no wasted heat to make an airing cupboard.

A store of cold water and hot water for times when the cold water main is down. Hot water can still be heated by an imersion.

Using a combi you only heat what you use, not a whole cylinder of water.

Hot water flow rates on combi's aren't always great - bath/ shower problems.

I haven't got a problem with tradesmen making an honest profit. Unfortunately there are far too many tradesmen (in all trades )that will screw their customers for anything and everything they think they can get away with. There's adding a profit margin and there's taking the piss.....

I've been looking into boilers a lot recently and this place seems to be very good on pricing.
