Hi,

I've seen a house that fits the bill, 2 bed semi up north for myself (first time buyer) no the problem is next door is a dump, its had and elderly person in it, it is now empty as they are in a home.

The house next door is full (and i mean full) of milk and serial boxed and there is flies all over the insides of the windows (probably has rats too), also the extension on the back has no roof, its literally completely rotted away.

Back to the house (next door) it was on at 115k reduced to 100k, you could pick up a decent one with a good next door for 110k. Good or bad idea? my offer would be below the asking price, say 90-95k

Worth the risk?

My concern is the house next door does not come up for sale for sometimes and becomes a massive st hole, the thing is when the house next door sells this will no increase the value of the other (i.e mine)

Good idea tho, maybe i could pop a letter through next door offering to buy it off them

You are right.

In the situation it is in, if it becomes derelict, it will seriously impact on your property. Not just because of vermin etc, but no-one wants to be connected to a boarded up house which could be used as a drug-den.

Left alone it can only get worse.

I wouldn't worry too much about the house next door - it's not as if the place if occupied with crack-heads or the like.

Maybe as a gesture of good will you could give their garden a once over with your mower if/when you move in.......it's not going to kill you.

The house next door is only a problem if other houses in the area are in a similar state.
If yours and the others in the street are in generally good order then the house next door will get sold in due course and likely be brought back to the same general order of the area.
